Site Visit... Site Visit...Site Visit...

Three weeks to the Site Visit.  Well stress is high and work not done but in progress.  This is my first Site Visit to prepare for.  So many things I have learned and so many things I would like to do differently or know more about.  Wish I had five years to prepare but you have to work with what you are given and do your best.  Perhaps the need for perfection should be a five year process and even then I think it is not possible.  A Site Visit is an opportunity for the school district to show off what they are doing and to learn what more they can do.  I understand that and promote that to staff.  It just seems like three days is not enough time to show and demonstrate to the state of Iowa what a fantastic school district I work with and what great teachers and students I am privileged to interact with everyday.  So back to preparation and trying to enjoy the process.

  1. Counting down, getting so stressed I have to think of how not to think that way. I usually do not have a problem with stress. So I have started thinking of what I will do when the site visit is over.
    1. Review and evaluate my performance.
    2. Organize my notes , put into a binder for next time (yest there will be a next time)
    3. Make a list of responsibilities that I have pushed to the back that need to come forward.
    4. Work on my Art classes.
    5. Make a list of home projects that really have not been even started.
    6. Do something really fun with my son, daughter, and all my children, grandchildren, and family.
    7. DO SOMETHING JUST FOR ME... NOT SURE WHAT BUT SOMETHING FUN AND RELAXING. I DESERVE IT.

  2. WEll tomorrow is the day. Had a day off of school due to the fog and ice and I say"Thank you God". Let me go over things one more time.(but of course I will go over them again before I go to sleep). I will say I know more about my school district than I ever thought possible. I could write the report from the DE without them even coming. I know what board policies are outdated, need reviewed, and which ones need knew verbage added. I can quote test scores and analyze them back to 2009. By the way Prairie Valley has good test scores but we can still do better. I can tell you professional development information, information on all programs, which ones need more and which ones are fantastic and need acknowledges. I know the demographics, student data and counts, collaborations agreements and even what the state requires for blind or print disabled students.
Now what do I not know.
How the DE team will view all this information.
Well we can always fix an oversite and we can always get better.
What will I do with my free time when this is over? HMMMM....

  3. A wonderful day for the first day of the site visit. I little bumpy due to the fact that everything (document review) got cancelled and had to be done on day one. Interviews went fine. I am counting mistakes and I have three so far. Perfection is hard to accomplish when you work as the Art teacher and assistant principal. I try... I was proud of our staff and students. Everyone is taking this so seriously and wants to do their best for the school. Had to remind them to calm down and just tell what they know, it is not a test! Glad I scheduled the public interviews at the elementary. Today is a no school snow day and is te day we had planned at being at the elementary. Since the DE were there last night I know that they have seen what a wonderful educational environment we have. I really wanted them to meet the kids though. Guess we will see what tomorrow brings. The DE staff have been very friendly and have put me through my paces. That is good and it is my job. Next blog entry will be about DE findings. I know that there are areas of improvement but I also want to see if they noticed all the wonderful things staff, students, parents, and administration do at Prairie Valley! How could they not.

  4. Have not gotten the full list of DE findings, just a few examples. All in all very positive as I had hoped. A few things to work on and that is good also. A great experience and time to relax a little, but not much . Now it is time to finish Iowa assessments, start Dibels, get back to art, and organize everything I have had to let build up.
